Words have the power to heal, inspire, and connect. On 21 March, the University of Malta Library, in collaboration with Poetry Jam Malta, invites you to an evening of poetic expression as we celebrate World Poetry Day.
Whether you’re a seasoned poet, a casual writer, or simply a lover of verse, this Poetry Jam is an open invitation to experience the magic of words.
An Evening of Verses and Voices
This event is more than just a poetry reading – it’s a shared experience where words take centre stage. Throughout the evening, poetry from attendees will be read aloud, offering a glimpse into the diverse creative minds present. Submissions left in the Red Library Letterbox will also be shared during the live reading, bringing them to life. And for those feeling inspired in the moment, an open-floor session will provide the opportunity to share spontaneous or personal poetry.

With its focus on creativity, connection, and community, the Poetry Jam welcomes experienced poets and first-time performers alike, celebrating the art of expression in all its forms. The event is not limited to a theme, and while the event will be primarily in English and Maltese, poetry in other languages is also welcome.
A Sanctuary for Poetry, a Space for Expression

A library is more than a collection of books – it is a sanctuary of stories, a refuge for thought, and a space where words come alive. At the UM Library, space is provided for both reflection in solitude and for discussion and performance. And so, it is both a space for inspiration to pen down one’s words and a space to share them with a sensitive and attentive audience. Nestled between its book-lined walls, poetry finds the perfect alcove to flourish.
Books hold centuries of wisdom and imagination, yet poetry has the capacity to capture fleeting moments and emotions, distilling them into verses that resonate across time. At the UM Library, we believe in the power of words to inspire, connect, and transform. By nature, poetry is one of the most profound forms of human expression, and we are committed to providing a space where it can thrive. Through collaborations and dedicated events, we encourage our patrons to share their experiences, stories, and creativity in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The Poetry Jam is a natural extension of our commitment to the Arts, complementing initiatives like ART Connect, which offers patrons a canvas for creative expression. Additionally, the Library continues to expand its role as a cultural hub, hosting an increasing number of exhibitions on diverse topics.
By fostering poetry, art, and discussion, we aim to make the Library not just a place of study, but a vibrant centre for creativity and community, where words are not only read, but also spoken, heard, and felt.

Submit Your Poetry
If you would like to share your carefully crafted words for the Poetry Jam, simply submit your poetry in the Red Library Letterbox found at the entrance of the UM Library by 20 March. Your poem may even be featured in the May edition of THINK. All submissions will be featured on the UM Library’s social media pages to be shared with the UM community.
So, bring your words, your voice, or simply your love for poetry, and let’s celebrate the art of expression together. Whether you come to share or just to listen, the Poetry Jam session at the UM Library promises an evening of inspiration and creativity.
